Section 1.1: Goals vs. Dreams

In truth, I didn’t commence my writing challenge on July 1st; I began on July 3rd. It was a Sunday, and I used the day to mentally prepare myself for this new endeavor. Throughout July, I published a total of 23 articles—just shy of my goal of 30.

This wasn't without its challenges, as I found myself ceasing my writing activities towards the end of the month and spent the first week of August without penning a single word.

Subsection 1.1.1: Reflections on My Break

Despite the setbacks, I gleaned essential insights from my month of daily writing. I felt compelled to share these lessons with my fellow writers on Medium, especially those who are just starting out. This, in itself, felt like a significant milestone in my writing career.

Section 1.2: Earnings Breakdown

Now, let’s dive into the results of my unique month of writing. Before you start expecting a windfall, it's crucial to clarify that earnings encompass more than just monetary gains. For me, it also includes the followers I gained.

A good writer earns money; a great writer earns readers.

To illustrate, let’s examine my follower growth over the month.

Before initiating my writing challenge, I had 377 followers. By the end of the month, that number swelled to 537—a gain of 160 followers, marking a 42% increase.

While gaining followers is great, it's important to remember that not every follower translates into a reader.

As my chemistry teacher once said, “All alkalis are bases, but not all bases are alkalis.”

This adage resonates in my writing journey as well.

Section 1.3: The Real Earnings

Now, let’s discuss the financial aspect of my writing efforts. How much did my dedication to writing almost every day yield in actual earnings?

While the dollar amount I earned might not seem significant at first glance, a deeper look reveals a different story. I earned $32.68, which is the highest sum I’ve garnered from writing on Medium to date, representing a 68% increase compared to my June earnings.

For some, this may appear minimal, but for me, it was a noteworthy achievement, especially since I had low expectations regarding financial gains from Medium. Earning anything from doing something I love is a win in my book.

As I continue my journey toward that elusive $100 monthly milestone, I promise to keep you updated on my progress.
