# Embracing Self-Love This Valentine's Day, No Matter Your Status

Chapter 1: The Dual Nature of Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day elicits mixed feelings in many of us. On one hand, it can seem like a commercial scheme designed to pressure us into spending money. On the other hand, the romantic in me appreciates having a day dedicated to love. However, the most important aspect is recognizing the significance of self-love.

Now, you might wonder how Valentine's Day relates to productivity. Well, any effort to celebrate, whether solo or with a partner, requires some level of planning and organization, especially if you aim to surprise someone.

Although Valentine's Day isn't particularly significant for me personally—my second marriage took place on this day—it's a meaningful occasion for many others. Interestingly, my most fulfilling marriage is celebrated in July.

For those who are single, Valentine's Day may serve as a stark reminder of societal expectations about being in a relationship. Conversely, for couples, it can either be a chance to reconnect or a moment to reflect on what's lacking in their bond.

Fortunately, my wife and I share a mutual understanding of Valentine's Day; we express our love for one another daily, without needing a specific holiday to prompt us.

Chapter 2: Understanding the Many Forms of Love

What I appreciate about Valentine's Day is the emphasis on love and the various forms it takes. While we often focus on romantic love, it's essential to remember that true love is enduring and transcends superficial gestures. We should contemplate why and how we cherish the people in our lives.

Love originates from within. It accepts individuals as they are today, free from conditions. It embraces everyone with compassion and grace. As women, it's vital to prioritize loving ourselves alongside loving others.

In my coaching practice, I often encounter clients who find themselves trapped in a cycle of self-criticism for their perceived failures. I empathize with that struggle; for years, I envisioned a career centered around writing and teaching. Though it remains a work in progress, both pursuits are integral to my life now—42 years in the making.

Before meeting my wife, writing a book felt like an unattainable dream. The idea of being an entrepreneur or freelancer seemed impossible without her support. Writing was once a mere fantasy; public speaking barely crossed my mind. I spent years doubting my abilities and potential.

Some individuals are fortunate enough to chase their dreams without a partner. However, many find themselves merely flirting with the idea of entrepreneurship or side projects, delaying serious commitment. While freelancing isn't for everyone, it’s unproductive to pursue it casually without genuine intent.

The key to being an effective entrepreneur or freelancer is to do two things:

  1. Love and believe in yourself before taking action.
  2. Forgive yourself for not starting earlier.

When you genuinely love and have faith in yourself, it’s not about entertaining fantasies or daydreams. It’s about using positive affirmations paired with actionable steps.

Forgiveness is a crucial aspect of self-love. Criticizing ourselves for missed opportunities only drains our energy and perpetuates negative self-perception. If we continuously tell ourselves we're inadequate, we attract that same negativity into our lives.

However, when we affirm our worthiness and our right to be loved and heard, we transform our self-image. This shift helps us attract like-minded individuals and motivates us to take aligned actions.

So, this Valentine's Day, regardless of your relationship status, celebrate yourself. Embrace self-love and believe in your ability to achieve your aspirations. If I can do it, so can you!
