I had never received a rose, or any flower for that matter, from anyone before. I often wish I had, as roses bring me immense joy. The sight of them uplifts my spirits.
Although I yearned for him to hand me that rose, I knew it was merely a fleeting fantasy. His affection was clearly directed toward her, evident in the glimmer of his eyes. I noticed the way his gaze lingered on her lips, as if he were drawn to them.
I often pondered whether he would gaze at me in the same way if I were by his side. Would he find my lips intriguing? I certainly would, as his smile radiated a beauty that captivated my attention like a mesmerizing painting.
He strolled away, hand in hand with her, laughter echoing between them. I remained at a distance, as that was where I felt most comfortable.
I wasn’t following them; it was merely a coincidence that our paths crossed at that moment. I prefer to believe it was sheer happenstance.
There was nothing more than a fleeting connection between us. We were merely strangers navigating a complicated world. Like the delicate petals of the rose, we were both vulnerable, waiting for the day our hearts might shatter.
For the time being, I found solace in watching him from afar, held back by fear.
Fear that getting too close would mean losing him.
Losing him for good was a reality I was not ready to face.
