Exploring Technology Through the Lens of Fast Food Analogies

Chapter 1: The Internet of Potatoes
In an attempt to stretch analogies to their limits, let’s delve into the amusing world of fast food comparisons.
You may have recently come across a post that breaks down technology into front-end, back-end, and API components. This simplified model is appealing, offering a relatable way to discuss tech. However, does it oversimplify the complexities involved? What would it take to really push this analogy to its maximum potential?
As part of my ongoing, somewhat whimsical challenge to connect technology with fast food—following my previous piece on Pizza as a Service—I’m ready to present my latest creation. Apologies in advance if my reasoning gets a little “potato”!
This thought experiment has been a delightful distraction while managing the chaos of potty training a toddler. Please excuse any oversights; I welcome your insights!
Introducing—The Internet of Potatoes v1.0
🍟 Raw Data: Your information, often likened to the new oil, is here represented as fresh potatoes.
🍟 Database: Think of this as a storage area, akin to a cupboard or refrigerator for our analogy.
🍟 Event Streaming: Data is moved in small, manageable pieces—no lounging on the couch for these potatoes!
🍟 Microservice: Each service specializes in one task, cooking food perfectly for the application (forgive my metaphorical mixing). If it’s headless, it’s more like a “decap-potato.”
🍟 API: This ties the data together in a meaningful way—would you like fries with that?
🍟 Internet: A digital restaurant where you can browse, search, and engage with web applications.
🍟 Search Engine: Your tool for seeking out what you need and making a choice.
🍟 Base Application: Largely ineffective on its own but acts as a container for the application.
🍟 Micro Frontend: A method for serving distinct parts of the application—keeping your fries and burger neatly separated.
🍟 Browser: The vehicle through which you consume the application.
🍟 Web Application: Voilà! That’s some delicious sweet potato…
🍟 Usage: Meeting the needs of users effectively.
Could we take this even further? What additional elements could you introduce without sounding too “starch”-raving mad?
Consider integrating: Networking, Container Orchestration, Experimentation, Design Systems, Security, End User Computing, and Software Development…
In the video titled "Internet of People (IOP) - Understand Mercury," we explore the intricate relationships and functions within the digital landscape, akin to our potato analogy.
Chapter 2: Additional Concepts and Ideas
Continuing our culinary exploration, we can expand our fast food metaphor to cover more advanced technology concepts.
The second video, "Yahki Awakened On Curing Diseases Naturally, Society Collapse, & Rat Experiments & More | Big Facts," provides a thought-provoking perspective on societal issues, paralleling our discussion of technology’s impact.
