Chapter 1: A Unique Perspective from the Baltic States

As an individual raised in Eastern Europe, particularly in the Baltic States, I often pondered my safety and the steps I could take to ensure it. These thoughts occupied my mind during my teenage years, and I feel compelled to share why I held a favorable view of Donald Trump.

It's important to note that I’m not delving into political debates. Instead, I wish to express my personal experiences during Donald Trump's presidency. I did not have the chance to vote for him, as I was too young and not yet a U.S. citizen.

Despite the criticism faced by various leaders, everyone has the right to support the candidate of their choice. My intention is to share my own story.

While I have no particular opposition to Biden, I appreciate his commitment to NATO and his support for Ukrainian forces in their battle for freedom. No one wishes to endure oppression, and I wholeheartedly believe Ukraine is fighting for a just cause.

In my earlier reflections on life in the Baltic States, I’ve shared personal experiences that shaped my childhood. Growing up in Lithuania—or any of the Baltic nations—often involves the anxiety of potential threats to our homeland.

I recall my elementary school days when air raid sirens echoed, creating an unsettling atmosphere that left us wondering if we were under attack. People would rush to their radios for updates, amplifying the fears of a young child concerned for their safety.

I vividly remember the sound of NATO fighter jets scrambling to intercept Russian aircraft that encroached upon Baltic airspace.

It is disheartening to realize that some individuals live in constant fear due to geopolitical tensions. This backdrop contributed to my trust in Donald Trump. Serving as the 45th President from 2017 to 2021, he played a key role in maintaining stable relations between the U.S., NATO, and nations like Russia and North Korea.

Notably, Trump was the first sitting U.S. president to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, even exchanging letters with him—a gesture that garnered significant attention globally.

Currently, two significant conflicts unfold: one between Russia and Ukraine, and the other involving Israel and various terrorist factions.

During Trump's administration, I believe his leadership deterred nations from escalating conflicts. Some argue that the onset of these wars reflects a perceived weakness in U.S. leadership, particularly following Trump's departure.

Though Trump faced accusations of favoring Russia, I do not share that view. His approach maintained a delicate balance in international relations, which helped keep NATO secure until now.

Regrettably, nuclear threats have become commonplace from Russia. However, it's crucial to understand that no nuclear conflict can be won. Such threats may simply be tactics to instill fear among the populace and policymakers.

With Joe Biden’s ascension to the presidency, the war between Ukraine and Russia began—perhaps coincidentally. However, reflecting on Trump’s presidency leads me to believe that such a large-scale conflict might not have been initiated during his term.

In conclusion, I have expressed my appreciation for Donald Trump's presidency and the reasons behind it. Ultimately, everyone has the right to their own beliefs, and this article serves to share a fragment of my perspective.
