Exploring My Week of Microdosing Psilocybin: Insights and Lessons

A few years back, I decided to delve into the world of microdosing magic mushrooms. Influenced by successful entrepreneurs who touted plant medicine as a means to enhance creativity and mental flexibility, I felt compelled to explore this trend myself. In a society constantly in search of the next miraculous solution, microdosing seemed to be the latest phenomenon. I began my journey with a specially crafted honey infused with magic mushrooms, which I used to make a delightful morning tea.

This narrative reflects my personal experience with psilocybin microdosing, and I advise taking it with a grain of caution (I’m not a healthcare professional). Each person's journey, experience, and reaction to mushrooms can vary greatly.

Day 1: Initial Dose

I chose to start my microdosing on a workday. Given the pandemic, I was only going into the office a few days a week, so I’m not quite sure why I opted for a public workspace for my first experience. I prepared lemon water with a teaspoon of my magic honey and consumed it on an empty stomach. My stomach felt a bit unsettled initially, but it normalized within an hour.

The first few hours of my day were filled with a noticeable burst of energy. I felt unusually focused, as though I possessed a creative secret. As a content writer at the time, I noticed that my writing flowed more smoothly than usual, and I felt a deeper connection to my surroundings. However, by the afternoon, I found myself slightly irritated by some colleagues. The judgments and frustrations I felt towards the corporate environment were surprising, as was the anxiety radiating from those around me.

This experience taught me valuable lessons about my own acceptance and desires in life. Day one proved to be enlightening, likely influenced by the high expectations set by media portrayals of microdosing. Nevertheless, I decided to continue.

Day 2: No Dose

Based on my research, I learned that taking a microdose every three days can prevent building a tolerance. Hence, I refrained from dosing on this day. The sense of expansion I felt previously lingered, making me more present and aware. I noticed that my day moved at a slower pace, and colors seemed more vibrant.

Day 3: No Dose

This day felt rather standard, with no significant changes or experiences. It was a stable and satisfactory day.

Day 4: Another Dose

Working from home on this day was a blessing, as I may have pushed the limits of my microdosing experience. I had anticipated a focused, creative boost akin to my earlier experience. Instead, I faced a stark reality where I struggled to concentrate and find the right words. My mind felt blank, and I wrestled with an inner conflict, fearing I wouldn’t complete my tasks.

What I perceived as a minor inconvenience spiraled into a moment of panic. I realized that measuring doses from honey is not an exact science, which prompted me to consider using an extract or capsule in the future. I sheepishly messaged my sister about my experience, and we shared a laugh over my predicament. Eventually, I surrendered to the experience, allowing myself to embrace what unfolded.

Once I let go, I found myself enjoying a blissful state in my apartment. After this, I resumed my work without any issues, feeling calm and at peace.

Day 5: No Dose

The following day, I experienced a pleasant “afterglow,” where life felt unusually enjoyable. Gratitude and self-love came easily, and this sensation persisted throughout the day. I did notice an increased suggestibility, perhaps due to the psychedelics or the influence of technology and social media. I felt a strong desire to connect with nature and a yearning to be outdoors.

Day 6: No Dose

This day was relatively normal, though I found myself feeling a heightened sense of gratitude compared to before my microdosing journey began.

Day 7: Conclusion of Microdosing

Ultimately, I decided to halt my microdosing practice. At that time, I lacked the tools and accurate formulations to ensure consistent dosing. Furthermore, I discovered that I preferred larger doses for my trips. I felt that my full-blown experiences provided more benefit than microdosing, which led to some minor discomfort.

While the discomfort was minimal, it highlighted that microdosing may not have been suitable for my life stage at that moment. I’m open to revisiting microdosing in the future, especially now that my work situation has changed. Numerous individuals advocate for the practice, claiming various mental health benefits, mood improvements, and increased energy.

Always prioritize safety and caution when considering any substance. Conduct thorough research, and remember that I’m not a medical professional but rather a curious individual sharing my journey online. Regardless of what others may say, such as prominent figures casually using psychedelics, it’s crucial to approach these substances with care.
