Overcoming Dry Eyes: My Journey to Better Eye Health

Written on

Chapter 1: A Shift in Lifestyle

Throughout much of my life, I pursued habits that weren't the healthiest. This included late nights filled with sugary drinks, snacks, and fast food, leading to irregular sleep patterns. As a teenager, health concerns were not on my radar, which is typical for many at that age.

At around 23, I decided it was time for a change. I began to prioritize better habits, shifting my bedtime from 5 am to a more reasonable 1 am. Fast food became a thing of the past, and I now limit my snacks to just once a day.

As I made these positive adjustments, I became increasingly aware of various health issues, particularly one that has been longstanding. My eyes have suffered from a condition known as dry eyes, which I learned about from both a pharmacist and my eye exam results, although my vision itself is perfectly fine.

I plan to consult my doctor soon and hope to see a specialist for further insight. Unfortunately, the reality of dry eyes is that there is no definitive cure; only symptom management is possible.

This made me wonder: Is it truly impossible to stimulate tear production? One of my goals for the rest of this year is to tackle this issue head-on. After researching online, I discovered that dry eyes are more prevalent than I had anticipated.

I came across a post where someone successfully alleviated their symptoms and maintained relief for a year. Although the product they used isn't available in my country, I’m optimistic that after consulting with a doctor, I could try something similar. I refuse to let this condition control my life, as it affects my daily activities, even hindering my writing on Medium.

My eyes often feel fatigued and irritated by light and wind. I cannot accept living with this discomfort indefinitely. Instead of lamenting my situation or giving up, I am determined to find a solution.

The human body is incredibly resilient, and I firmly believe that with the right support, I can overcome this condition. I am committed to finding a way to improve my eye health, and I promise myself to pursue this journey until I succeed.
