This has become a priority for me in most of my writings, with exceptions for my earliest pieces and my About Me section, which remain exclusive to dedicated community supporters. The Friends of Medium play a crucial role in sustaining our vibrant community. While there are many ambitious individuals here, I believe that most writers genuinely want to share something meaningful—something so important that financial gain takes a backseat.

If you’re hesitant about providing free access to your articles, consider these five compelling reasons:

1. Free Knowledge: The belief that knowledge should be available to everyone is fundamental. Platforms like Wikipedia exemplify this principle.
2. No Revenue Loss: My articles thrive even when non-members can read them. Members still contribute to revenue, and there’s little to no financial detriment from individuals who weren’t paying members to start with.
3. Convenient Sharing: Enabling your friends, who already follow you on Medium, to read your articles without the constant need for a friend’s link makes sharing easier.
4. Algorithm Advantages: Greater engagement from non-members can enhance your article’s visibility on Medium, which may lead to new members discovering your work.
5. Converting Non-Members: Allowing non-members to engage with your articles might inspire them to become members. A paywall can discourage potential supporters, whereas familiarity with your content can motivate them to join.

Providing a pathway for non-members to access your work benefits not just the readers but also the writers and the broader community.
