As a small business, we often find ourselves overshadowed by giants like Boeing. Our goal should be to provide genuine value that extends beyond simple transactions. The key is to become someone who contributes value first.

Albert Einstein wisely stated, "Try not to become a man of success, but a man of value." People often seek to gain more from life than they invest. A truly valuable individual gives more than they receive.

To begin transforming your perspective towards value creation, consider the following steps:

  1. Reframe Your Thinking: Instead of asking, "What's in it for me?" ask yourself, "What's in it for them?" Focus on how you can assist the other person. As Gary Vaynerchuk suggests, aim to give 51% more in every relationship.
  2. Conduct Thorough Research: Become an investigator. Understand who the other person is and what matters to them. Discover their goals, values, and challenges.
  3. Reach Out with Intent: Avoid contacting someone unless you have something substantial to offer. I often receive messages from individuals who simply want to connect, which isn't appealing. Instead, provide insights that can genuinely improve their situation, such as sharing industry trends or solutions to common problems.
  4. Maintain a Value-Driven Approach: Never become complacent in your relationships. Always strive to provide value. Be someone who consistently overpromises and over-delivers. Before sending an email, making a call, or trying to connect, ask yourself, "Am I adding value?" Make this a guiding principle in your life.
